The River Burdinale has carved out a wonderfully hilly and verdant landscape. This circuit unearths the richness and diversity of this essentially agricultural region.
The route covers both sides of the Burdinale valley. We are in the Hesbaye here, one of the great grain-growing areas of Belgium. The itinerary begins at Burdinne, beside the Grosse Ferme.
From the first kilometres on, easy sections alternate with more technical challenges, within a landscape of fields, orchards and woodland. Villages pop up along the way, one after the other. At Fumal we cross the old local railway line which, in times gone by, took passengers to Landen, Huy and Ciney.
Approaching Vissoul, there is a succession of climbs and descents. In the Parc Naturel des Vallées de la Burdinale et de la Mehaigne, little forest paths, farmland access roads and dirt tracks immerse us in nature – at once wild and protected.
