The Théâtre Royal des Galeries was incorporated in the construction of the Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert in 1847.

During the 19th century, most productions given there were either romantic dramas, melodramas or operettas.

In 1951, the theatre was renovated so that the 850 seats were now face-on for the spectators' comfort. During this refurbishment, René Magritte painted a fresco on the room's ceiling.

After the renovation, an in-house theatre company was formed. Although the company was faithful to the theatre's image as a place of entertainment and classical repertoire, many contemporary authors found their way into the programming.

The Théâtre des Galeries is driven by the desire to wisely entertain the public
