CHURCH OF SAINT-ETIENNE
6900 WAHA (MARCHE-EN-FAMENNE)
- MAPS: Google Maps
This remarkable building, dating from 1050, is the oldest of all Roman churches in Belgium and is listed in Wallonia's Major Heritage. Its sobriety intrigues and its splendour fascinates... This is the only church to have preserved its dedicatory stone commemorating the consecration of the church on June 20th 1050. Church windows, realised by Jean-Michel Folon, remind of the martyr of Saint-Etienne. It also houses some of Master Waha's works, a little-known sculptor but whose works arouse admiration and amazement.
An audiovisual presentation shows the testimony of Jean-Michel Folon on the manufacturing of church windows, as well as some commentaries on the major pieces of the church's heritage.
Another presentation is dedicated to Master Waha's works.
Guided visits (in French, Dutch, English) for groups (max. 25 pers.) by appointment.
