The Grand-Hornu, one of the major mining sites in Wallonia, was listed as a Unesco World Heritage site in 2012.

The Grand-Hornu is 200 years of avant-garde. It's a former mining site demonstrating 19th-century industry and is only an hour from Brussels. It's the result of a truly urban project. Its remarkable architecture is Neoclassical in style and consists of the industrial mining complex, the workers' estate and the managers' living accommodations. The Grand-Hornu is recognised as an exceptional heritage site of Wallonia and actively participates in international preservation programmes.

The historical visit is completed by temporary exhibitions on design, applied arts in the renovated rooms, and contemporary art in the museum which opened in 2002. This place blends together memory and contemporary approaches.
