Gros-Fays is a typical small Ardennes village which is part of the municipality of Bièvre, in the province of Namur.

Away from the major roads networks, the village is a picture of peace and quiet and lends itself perfectly to nice walks. It is perched on the edge of a hill down to the Semois river.

Little gems to discover

Its beech forest is one of its many riches. Below the village several shale quarries that were once well mined have created cavities that are still visible today. Tobacco cultivation has also left behind a few drying sheds that were originally agricultural hangars.

There is also a magnificent fortified farm from the 17th century, as well as a laundry building from 1865 close to a circular drinking trough in the centre of the village. Slate houses surround the area.

The association "Les Plus Beaux Villages de Wallonie"

Created in 1994 and inspired by the French equivalent, the association "Les Plus Beaux Villages de Wallonie" awards its label to the most beautiful countryside sites of Wallonia.

Listed buildings and outstanding patrimony (in a preserved environment) go hand in hand with the inhabitants' will to share their quality of life. © asbl Les Plus Beaux Villages de Wallonie
