The Château de Steinbach, which dates back to the beginning of the 11th century, lies in the picturesque village of the same name, in the Houffalize region.
The whole of the domain has been a listed heritage site since 1976 and the castle itself is a rare and beautiful example of 18th non-urban architecture.
Although the castle's foundations date back to the beginning of the 11th century, the castle as we know it now is more recent.
In fact, after a devastating fire, the castle was rebuilt by Michel Joseph de Beurthé between 1750 and 1766 and owes its current form to architect Albert Starck.
This square building, with its interior courtyard, its bread oven and its octogonal turrets, is the oldest of 3 castles to be found in the little village of Steinbach. The village, which lies on the banks of the Ourthe, is one of the most beautiful villages of the province of Luxembourg.
Visit the castle
Château de Steinbach is a private property. It is generally open to the public during the "Journées du Patrimoine" (Heritage Days) that take place one weekend a year in September.
