The Dinant Citadel invites you for an incredible journey. Immerse yourself in over nine centuries of history and discover the Meuse Valley in Belgium.

Dinant Citadel was constructed in 1051 by the Prince Bishop of Liège. The citadel proudly dominates the city and the entire Meuse Valley. At the top of this fortress, enjoy a stunning view of the Meuse river and one of the most beautiful valleys in Belgium.

You will be able access the citadel on foot, in climbing its 408 steps, or by taking the cable car. During your visit, which includes the Weapons Museum, you will find objects and educational signs recounting the glorious past of Dinant, which is also known as "Fille de Meuse" (daughter of the Meuse).

New 1914 space

In August 1914, the citadel and its surroundings were witness to dreadful conflicts where French and German troops fought against each other. 100 years later, the citadel remembers it well and enables you to discover this significant moment in Belgian and European history through this new space dedicated to the 1914 conflicts.
