Set in the heart of Cinquantenaire Park, the museum offers visitors a rich and varied view of our past from pre-history to the 20th century

Plunge into the:

  • Antiquity collection, evoking great ancient civilisations such as Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece and Rome.

  • Decorative European Arts: retrace the major artistic trends that were developed in Europe from the 10th century to the present day.

  • Non-European collections:
    An invitation to journey through India, South-East Asia, China and pre-columbian America.

  • National Archaeology:
    Artifacts that bring back to life eras from the pre-historic times to the Merovingian period.


Practical information


Closed on Mondays, on 1 January, 1 May, 1 and 11 November and 25 December.

Ticket sale ends at 4pm

On 24 and 31 December (unless a Monday or regular closing day), the museum closes at 4pm and ticket sales stop at 3pm.

Rooms closed for renovation:

  • Copte textiles
  • Oceania
  • Costumes and laces
  • European ceramics
  • Belgian decorative arts of the beginning of the 20th century
  • Horta-Lambeaux Pavillon


Tickets for permanent collections

  • €5 adults
  • €4 under 18 (family visit), students, young person's card
  • €4 for over 60s
  • €4 groups of adults of at least 10 people
  • free entry for children under 13 (family visit)
  • free entry for the blind or visually impaired and accompanying persons
  • free entry every first Wednesday of the month starting at 1pm


Temporary exhibit: prices vary depending on the exhibit.
