The Butcher's Fraternity Festival in St. Hubert
© Confrérie des Bouchers saint Hubert
- MAPS: Google Maps
The butchers who come from the four corners of Belgium and from other neighbouring countries, march through the streets of the town. A wonderful event taking place in Saint-Hubert on 28/09/14!
Each will be dressed in their work clothes, apron and white bonnet, sharpening steels at their waists, carrying their Patron Saint on their shoulders.
The Butchers' Fraternity was founded in 1591 and later disbanded during the French Revolution. It was successfully revived in 1958.
According to legend, butchers were among the assassins of Saint Lambert (the Bishop of who was succeeded by Saint Hubert). Because Saint Hubert pardoned them, he was chosen as their protector.
10am: parade of fraternities through the town
11am: large solemn mass accompanied by the sound of the hunting horns of St Hubert.
