Caricature and comic strip exhibition at the brand new First World War interpretation centre from 19/09 to 24/12/2014.

The exhibition presents the caricatures of Old Bill who came to fame and boosted the moral of British troops during the Great War.

Old Bill was created by British illustrator Captain Bruce Bairnsfather while he was part of the First Royal Warvwickshire Battalion and stayed in Saint-Yvon in the Comines-Warneton region during the winter of 1914-1915.

Old Bill is shown as a quaint character, with a gruff appearance and a big moustache. He first appeared in a London newspaper in 1915.

He quickly became a familiar character who, still today, attracts the attention of numerous enthusiasts and collectors.

Discover the exhibition from 19 September 2014

This exhibition is organised in collaboration with Major Holt and his wife who, a lover of caricatures, published a collection in the 70s. The couple will be present for the exhibition's preview and will lead a conference on 19 September 2014.
