Discover this exhibition, which retraces the history of Beffroi, from its creation in the 17th century to its restauration, which began 30 years ago. In Mons until 30/12/14!

A magical place accommodates the exhibition: The Saint Calixte Chapel, which is situated at Square Roosevelt, opposite the Sainte-Waudru collegial church, the former chapel of the Ursuline convent, which will experience a new lease of life in the coming years. From now on at the heart of the museum centre, it will be dedicated to the hidden side of museums and thus will be the place of conservation of all of Mons' communal heritage: Artothèque.

This outdoor exhibition is dedicated to the history of the area, but also to the convent.

Here you will discover:

  • Sketches, plans, documents...
  • And architects' commentaries.

A bit of history

Recognised by UNESCO since 1999, the belfry is a remarkable architectural piece of history. The only existing baroque belfry, it was constructed between 1661 and 1672, and remains one of the cities symbols and a significant landmark. The belfry has no less than 365 steps, 87 metres of height and and 49 clocks to rediscover. The re-opening of this landmark is scheduled for 2015...this exhibition will make your mouth water, without a doubt!
