Discover how an "undeveloped and often run down" city centre can become the spot of artistic intervention. In Charleroi from 03/05 to 26/10/14!
Participate in reinforcing the city's beauty and putting Charleroi onto the Belgian cultural, artistic and social scene. Voilà, the objective of this Urban Art Biennial.
Structured around a central theme: visual arts, whilst also spreading itself over other components, such as:
- Body arts
- Theatre arts
- Festive arts
- and finally, academic arts.
Asphalte#1, is also setting down the base of a new perspective, which determines the subtitle of this first edition: "Nouvelles Urbanités" (New Urbanities).
Discover more than 20 demonstrations in total!
The B.P.S. 22, a space for contemporary creation proposes an important visual component and for the occasion, produces renowned artistic interventions, from which include Maya Hayuk (USA), Steve Powers (USA), Escif (E), and Hell'O Monsters (B).
Around ten artists are taking over the run down parts to remodel the city. Other Charleroi workers/traders equally give substance to the programme, allowing you to discover urban art in its diversity.
Charleroi Danses (Charleroi's choreography centre) presents the astounding MÉDUSES from the graphic artist Vincent Glowinski (alias bonom), who works with the media artist, Jean-François Roversi, demonstrating his street frescos on stage.
Hip hop dancers also appear on the stage, in the street, and in some atypical spots:
The Pédros brothers and the Feux d'ArthyFresh (their first world premier), Milan SuperShowman Emmanuel and also Crazy Alliance. Marcelo Evelin, the Brazilian, will also offer a participative parade.
A dance contest "HipHopà6000" will take place at Eden (Charleroi's regional cultural centre), in addition to 2 concerts with acts, namely The Subs and Raketkanon and concerts from the four corners of the city for the Fêtes de la Musque (Music festivals).
The Ancre Theatre, an experimental theatre, introduces to the stage The Villes Tentaculaires (a collection of poetries from Belgian poet, Émile Verhaeren) and projections created by the collective, Dirty Monitor.
Asphalte#1 is also an electronic music festival, and taking place throughout the city will also be an urban invasion, an exhibition, debates, symposiums and artistic workshops allowing you to really investigate the metamorphosis of the city and its new urbanities.
