A painter who has gained an international reputation, Rubens synthesized shades and paradoxes of his time...Come and discover the exhibition at BOZAR from 25/09/14 to 04/01/15!

His creations are a source of inspiration for a wide range of artists. It is therefore not surprising that the influence of this Flemish master-painter on many generations of artists that have followed after him is enormous!

The work of Rubens, which each time remains in dialogue with works of other great painters, such as Manet, Picasso, Delacroix, Kokoschka and Rembrandt, is displayed through 6 themes:

    • Violence,
    • Power,
    • Lust,
    • Compassion,
    • Elegance,
    • And peace.

Many themes are covered thanks to Ruben's work and that of his successors.

      Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640)

Rubens, born on 28 June 1577 in Siegen (Westphalie) and who died on 30 May 1640, is a Flemish Baroque painter, who was also appointed court painter.

He produced a considerable and varied portfolio of works from his own personal workshop.

Although he painted a large number of portraits, he was mainly known for his large religious projects, mythological paintings and significant collection of historical paintings.

Known for his erudition and charm among nobility, he equally played an important diplomatic role at that time and enjoyed an unequalled social status among artists of his time.

Few are aware but Rubens was greatly influenced by the works of Italian painters.

BOZAR puts particular emphasis on the little known origins of the Italian Renaissance in an exhibition worth visiting soon!

Much more than just an artist, a whole destiny is waiting to be discovered!
