In 2014 and 2015, Wallonia will commemorate 3 major events which shaped the history of Belgium, Europe and the World.

 

 First World War Centenary    70th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge    Bicentenary Waterloo 1815
   

100 years ago, in August 1914, the conflict between France and Germany took on a global dimension with the invasion of the province of Liège and the attack on its forts.

 

70 years ago, in December 1944, the battle of the Bulge, the final battle of the Second World War on belgian soil, raged in the provinces of Luxembourg, Namur and Liège.

 

Already 200 years ago, on the 18 June 1815, a battle that was to change the course of European history took place on the fields of Waterloo.

To commemorate these three periods of history, Wallonia offers you a programmes that's full of emotion. Visit monuments, historic locations, museums and exhibitions, but also take part in homage ceremonies, dramatic reenactments or follow themed trails.

Everyone will be able, whether with family or friends, to improve their knowledge and raise awareness among their children for this part of our history so that we never forget this duty of remembrance. Find out more.
