The city of Mons, cultural capital of Wallonia, has an impressive heritage. It has also been chosen to be European Capital of Culture in 2015.

Discover Mons 2015 - European Capital of Culture.

Mons counts numerous listed sites such as The Belfry , the Mons Town Hall or the Treasury of the St-Waudru's Collegiate Church.

Only a few kilometres outside the city centre, don't forget to visit the superbly restored Grand-Hornu Mining Site: Industrial Archaeology & Temporary Exhibitions. It houses the MAC's - Museum of Contemporary Art of the French-speaking Community  that houses remarkable temporary exhibitions, shrewdly put together by its famous director, Laurent Busine.

Every year, at the start of the summer, Mons and its Grand'Place are the main stage for a remarkable folkloric event that is listed as a UNESCO Intangible Heritage: the Doudou: Golden Carriage, Lumeçon Battle & Ducasse Sainte-Waudru. No Montois in his right mind would ever want to miss it.

A must-see if you want to experience the public joy and energy of this welcoming city.
